Requirements:

Employees must maintain their residence within 35 miles of our office in Arlington Heights although waivers for reasonable distances beyond this limit may be granted.

Applicants are required to demonstrate that they are able to type a minimum of 40 words per minute to facilitate working with the computer system and will undergo testing of mental ability to assist us in identifying the most suitable candidates for these positions. Those who successfully pass the typing and mental ability tests will proceed to the final testing process, which measures dispatching and call-taking skills.

In view of the fact that our employees have access to sensitive law enforcement information all finalists will be subject to a thorough background investigation including a fingerprint check of criminal history files.

Schedule:
Currently telecommunicators work fixed (non-rotating) eight-hour shifts, on a 5-2/5-3 schedule – five days on, two days off, five days on, three days off, etc… The 5-2/5-3 schedule gives the employee the benefit of 18 extra days off each year and alternating three day “weekends”. Employees pay back to the system a four-hour block of time each month to offset the extra days off that the 5-2/5-3 schedule affords.

***A $30, non-refundable, application fee is required when testing is scheduled.***
