Northwest Central Dispatch System is a consolidated, multi-jurisdictional emergency communications system which presently serves the communities of Arlington Heights, Buffalo Grove, Elk Grove Village, Hoffman Estates, Inverness Police, Mount Prospect, Palatine, Palatine Rural Fire Protection, Prospect Heights Police, Rolling Meadows, Schaumburg, and Streamwood. NWCDS answers about 274,000 emergency telephone calls per year and dispatches about 222,000 police calls and 52,000 fire/EMS calls. The authorized staffing levels are 71 Telecommunicators, 2 Alarm Operators, 7 Operations Managers, and 12 Administrative staff.

Northwest Central Dispatch System provides Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) services using the program developed by Priority Dispatch Consultants. The system is a valuable way to identify and classify different types of medical emergencies and provide Basic Life Support instructions until Paramedics arrive on the scene. The program is facilitated by the National Academies of Emergency Dispatch and the Northwest Community Hospital Emergency Medical Services System. All Emergency Medical Dispatchers are licensed with the Illinois Department of Public Health.

The national Wireless AMBER Alerts Initiative is a voluntary partnership between the United States Department of Justice, the wireless industry, and the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC), to distribute AMBER Alerts to wireless subscribers who opt in to receive the messages and are able to receive text messages on their wireless devices
