Unsung Heroes

They sit in front of computer screens waiting for that call.
“Help! My child is not breathing!” or “My cat’s in a tree and he’s about to fall!”

They quickly and efficiently ascertain the information,
And dispatch the proper units without hesitation.

They handle the most distraught person with the utmost of care.
And work to gain the confidence of the caller in despair.

They gather needed information to protect their responding friends.
And hope that their hard work prevents an unwelcome end.

And when their shift is over and their work is done for the day,
They return to their families knowing they did their job today.

These unsung heroes are a lifeline for all who are in a plunder.
Without them, 9-1-1 would be a meaningless number.

So do not despair or worry about a thing. A 9-1-1 Dispatcher is waiting for the phone to ring.
